Upcoming Event - Statistical Method Validation (Shanghai) 2/14/2008
Event: Statitistical Method Validation - Enhancing the robustness of analytical procedures with powerful statistical methodology
    Dates: May 29 & 30, Shanghai, China
    Organizer: Marcus Evans

Laboratories have a professional obligation to provide accurate and reliable analytical results to customers. The Laboratory should justify the customer's trust by providing the correct answer to the analytical part of the problem, in other words, results that have demonstrable ‘fitness for purpose".  Analytical method validation is one of the measures universally recognised by laboratory as a necessity for a comprehensive system of quality assurance.

Reliable analytical results are required for compliance with international regulations in almost all areas of analysis. Method validation is an essential component of the measure that laboratories should employ to ensure that they produce accurate and reliable results, hence ensuring business continuity.

According to IMS Health, a market intelligence company, China is expected to become a top five market for pharmaceutical development by 2010. Home to 23 percent of the world's population, China offers many benefits for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies conducting clinical trials, including treatment of naive patients, low costs, shortened timelines for clinical trials and positive patient attitudes

Petrochemical industry is an important component of the energy and raw material industry in China. Petrochemical products are widely applied to industry, agriculture, national defense, science and technology, people's life and other fields, and play a crucial role and function in the national economy.

After five decades of construction, particularly rapid development in the seventh, eighth and ninth Five-Year Plan periods, China's petrochemical industry acquired a considerable scale and basis. In the Ninth Five-Year Plan period (1996-2000), the enterprise scale, the production capacity and the technological equipment rose to a new level thanks to massive restructuring, adjustment of investment directions and greater efforts on technological renovation, laying a basis for strategic adjustment and development in the Tenth Five-Year Plan period. With the acceleration of economic globalization and the deepening of reform and opening-up in China, China's petrochemical industry is also meeting unprecedented opportunities and challenges. As a pillar of the national economy, the industry must seize the opportunities, embrace the challenges and speed up development so as to make fresh contribution for sustained, fast and healthy growth of the national economy.

China's chemical industry is world-scale in terms of both size and growth rate, and accounts for an impressive 10% of the country's GNP. The total production value of China's chemical industry is increasing at 8 - 9% per year.

Traditional inorganic and organic chemicals account for 48% of the total. Demand for some coal-based chemicals is still heavy, largely thanks to the fertiliser industry. Next in importance are petrochemicals and natural gas (20%), pharmaceuticals (17%) and artificial fibres (9%).

There are tens of thousands of chemical companies in China, and more than 10,000 of these are joint ventures. Some $30 billion is invested in China's chemical industry every year, of which foreign investment accounts for 55–60%. There are nearly 80 different commodity chemicals on the market, or 137 if petrochemicals and fibres are included.
