    China’s pharmaceutical international trade surplus up 10/21/2005
    According to official statistics, China’s international trade of pharmaceutical related products in the first eight months of 2005 rose 19.51% compared with the same period in 2004, reaching US$9,683 million.  Among the total, import was US$4,215 million, up by 14.69%, while export rose by 24.93% reaching US$5,468 million.

    During the period, medical devices and API continue to account for around 3/4 of the total international trade of pharmaceutical related product, while health materials, formulated traditional Chinese medicines and finished western medicines represents only between 5%-10% of the total.

    On the import side, medical devices account for 43.75% of the total, while API takes up 23.45%.

    On the export side, API represents 52.19% of the total, while health materials account for 11.01%.  It is notable that the share of medical devices in total export of pharmaceutical related products during the period have grown to 27.84%.
