    SFDA bans retail sales of certain drug products 9/19/2005
    The State Food and Drug Administration of China issued a notice in September 2005 that as of January 1, 2006 retail pharmacies will be banned from selling nine categories of drug products including Narcotics, Radioactive drugs, Class 1 psychoactive drugs, pregnancy termination drugs, protein drugs, peptide category hormonal drugs (except Insulin products), pharmaceutical chemicals that can easily be used to make narcotics, vaccines, and other drugs that are banned for retail sales in laws and regulations. 

     


    In addition, the notice bans the following categories of drug products to be sold without physician prescriptions as of January 1, 2006.  They are: all injectable drugs, medical toxic drugs, class 2 psychotic drugs, other drugs subject to control as psychotic drugs, therapeutic drugs for mental disorders including those for psychiatric diseases, anxiety, vesania and depression, antivirals (retroviridase inhibitors and protease inhibitors), anticancers, compound oral preparations containing narcotics, tramal preparations, other antibiotics and hormonal drugs not listed in the OTC drug bulletin, and other drugs banned for sales without prescription by the SFDA.
