Statins over the past years have been cornerstone drugs for the companies that produce them, worth over US$25 billion in 2009 and look to be even more profitable in the future with the looming health issues in the United States and Europe. Statins are a staple medication used to deal with coronary artery diseases, cholesterol and other high cardiac risk diseases and with over 28% of all deaths in the US alone coming from heart related disease it is sure bet that the global Statin market will continue to grow rapidly. In the near future we also will experience the expiration of four profitable Statin drugs, most notably Lipitor, which expires in 2011 and made US$12.4 billion alone in 2008.
