SDRC decision on OTC drug price met resistance 9/19/2005
State Development and Reform Commission (SDRC) announced that it will change the approval procedure for pricing of OTC drug products as of August 1, 2005.  SDRC decided to decentralize the approval authority of OTC drug products to provincial level development and reform commissions, instead of approving them centrally at the SDRC like before.

Most of the pharmaceutical companies with OTC drug business raised their rejections of the change, suggesting that the move will cause more bureaucracy and result in more administrative costs on manufacturers, as well as the possibility of unfair competition.  China Association of Non-Prescription Medicines organized a forum of major OTC manufacturers on the matter and submitted a request to the SDRC for reconsideration of this decision.
