Economic Losses from Illnesses Rise 9/19/2005

Vice Minister of Health Wang Longde reported on a recent Sino-EU forum for sustainable development that China’s annual economic losses from diseases reached RMB 1.2 trillion, accounting for 10.3% of the country’s GDP. The same figure was RMB 321 billion in 1993, accounting for 9.3% of the country’s GDP then. It is obvious that growth of China in economic losses from diseases is higher than that of GDP.
