State Council concludes medical reform in China "unsuccessful" 9/19/2005
The Development Research Center of the State Council publicized on July 28 its research report, “Report on Medical and Health System Reform”, which concluded that “while there had been some progress made since the adoption of Open Policy, China’s medical and health system reform exposed more problems, and in general has been unsuccessful.  The Report compared the country’s healthcare system before and after reform, and suggested that the system is changing towards the “bad” direction with serious problems in geographic and population coverage, fairness and efficiency.  It commended the healthcare system before reform and concluded that the former success was a result of government’s leading and dominant role in healthcare.
