6/8/2006
The State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) recently issued a notice to standardize drug names used in advertisements in an effort to implement Provisions for Drug Insert Sheets and Labels (SFDA Order No. 24), strengthen the management of drug advertisements and apply standard drug names in drug advertisements: trade names of drugs shall not be used independently in advertisements and must be accompanied by the adopted names in China; unregistered trademarks shall not be used in drug advertisements; registered trademarks are not allowed to substitute drug names in drug promotion (except for character type registered trademarks that have been approved to be used as trade names of drugs); when registered trademarks are used in drug advertisements, the adopted names in China must be used simultaneously; the size of each character of trade names of drugs shall not exceed one half of that of their adopted names in China; and the size of each character of character type registered trademarks shall not exceed one fourth of that of their adopted names in China.
