    Pharmaceutical import and export soars in 1st half of 2005 9/15/2005
    Statistics from the China Chamber of Commerce for Medicinal and Health Products show that the total import and export value of pharmaceutical and health products in the first half of 2005 reached US$13,083 million, up by 26.32% compared with the same period in 2004.  Among the total, export sales was US$7,298 million, up by 30.27%, while import value was US$5,785 million, up by 21.66%.  
     
    Asia, Europe and North America continue to be the major export markets of China’s pharmaceutical and health products, and exports to these regions in the period rose 25.74%, 34.75% and 32.86% respectively.  USA, Japan and Germany are the largest trading partners of China for pharmaceutical and health products, trading value with these countries in the period account for 39.59% of total.
     
    API also continues to be the largest category of pharmaceutical and health products for export.  Total export sales of API in the first half of 2005 was 3,827 million, up by 29.2%.
     
    Major categories for import in the period continued to be medical devices and finished Western medicines.  Imported medical devices mostly come from Philips, GE and Simens in the period.
