    China is to become the 5th largest OTC drug market in the world 9/13/2005
    China is to become the 5th largest OTC drug market in the world within three to five years, and it is already ranking the 9th now, according to a recent international conference participated by senior executives of major retail pharmacy chains in China, as well as senior officials of pharmaceutical retailing trade associations and enterprises from Western countries such as the US, Germany and Japan. 
     
    According to the Retail Pharmacy Branch of the China National Association of Pharmaceutical Commerce, there are 1,624 retail pharmacy chains in China by the end of 2004, up by 34% compared with the same figure in 2003.  Pharmaceutical retail sales in 2004 reached RMB 46.3 billion, rising by 18%.
