According information from reliable sources, a number of senior officials of the SFDA, including Cao Wenzhuang (Director of Drug Registration Department of SFDA), Lu Aiying (Chief of the Pharmaceutical Chemicals Section under the Drug Registration Department of SFDA), and Wang Guoyong (Secretary General of the Pharmacopoeia Commission of China) were detained by Beijing's Xicheng Procuratorate Office for questioning on January 13, 2006 during the 2006 National Food and Drug Administration Conference in Beijing.

It is believed that they were detained for questioning regarding corruption related matters. 

This event follows the arrest of Hao Heping, former Director of the Medical Device Department of the SFDA, in July 2005 for corruption and bribery charges.

There are also rumors that Zheng Xiaoyu, former Director General of SFDA, is now also under investigation.

These events and rumors confirm undying conspiracy stories circulating in the industry that there is widespread corruptions in China's drug registration and regulatory processes.
