Thermage approved to distribute skin tightening system in China 11/4/2005
US medical device company Thermage announced that the State Food & Drug Administration (SFDA) of China had just granted regulatory approval to sell the company's ThermaCool system in China.

Hayward, California-based Thermage is focused on the development of unique radiofrequency-based technologies for aesthetic and therapeutic applications, developing what the company claims is the first non-invasive procedure to tighten and contour skin.

The company made the announcement at the combined annual meeting of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology (ACMMSCO) in Atlanta.

According to the company, the ThermaCool system is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure to tighten, contour and rejuvenate facial skin to help naturally restore a more youthful appearance. The procedure is administered in a doctor's office, and utilizes a unique form of capacitive radiofrequency technology to tighten existing collagen and stimulate new natural collagen growth.

"This regulatory approval represents a significant new opportunity to penetrate additional international markets. As we continue to grow, our goal is to further enhance our global presence as a leader in the capacitive radiofrequency market," reported president and CEO of Thermage, Stephan Fanning, adding that selling into this rapidly growing market was a tremendous opportunity for the company.
